It is now official! The Samsung Galaxy S5 unveiled at the Mobile World Congress. With a 16megapixel camera, full UHD recording and a Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor, this latest addition to the Galaxy series packs less punch than expected. The Gear Fit, that was unveiled simultaneously, has aroused interest by packing fitness trackers like the heart rate monitor and the pedometer, though we do not know how useful they would be.

Design : Though the same-old-plastic-body design is a bit of a disappointment, the leather like back panel, with perforations like look, might be a hit with many. With an IP67 certification, this too joins the dust-resistant, water proof phones bandwagon.

Another  good thing is that Samsung is planning to launch the phone in 4 colors for Samsung Galaxy s5. Shimmery White, Charcoal Black, Electric Blue (which looks a hue brighter than normal) and a Copper version, which we suspect, might be called Gold.

Display: It is quite surprising that Samsung did very little to the screen size. A mere 0.1” increase from its predecessor was not the expectation. The phone looks more rectangular though. It has become a tad bit heavier too.

The Home button now also functions as a finger print scanner, to provide for enhanced security. What with numerous online apps available for finger print scanning protection, this feature doesn’t stand out.

Samsung Galaxy s5 sports the same 1080p super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. However, the pixel density (42ppi) gives it a nice edge.

Processor & Performance: This boasts of a Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor with 2GB RAM. Though a 3GB Exynos processor was expected, Samsung is sure that, clocking at 2.5GHz, this phone is sure to win many a hearts.

Samsung Galaxy s5 comes with an Android 4.4.2 (Kitkat). The memory stands at 16/32GB user memory + microSD slot that can be expanded upto 128GB.

Another upgrade on the phone is the Download Booster with simultaneous LTE and Wi-Fi ability. This is expected to increase your download speed by ~80-90%.

The 2800mAh battery is a big boost for Samsung Galaxy s5, promising a full 21hr talk time. It comes with a +Ultra Power saving mode, which automatically adjusts phone settings for optimum power saving, when your battery is low.

Camera:  Samsung Galaxy s5 features a 16MP that records 4K UHD videos, though you need a 4K TV to watch the full effect of the videos. You also get the full 16MP resolution if you shoot in 16:9. This is a considerable jump. Samsung is also going around bragging about the advance High Dynamic Range(HDR) mode and the autofocus speed on this phone. The faster Autofocus mode makes capturing moving objects delightful.

The true hero here is the HDR mode, which works for both pictures and videos. With this feature, capturing shaded subjects will be more effective. Even with very powerful counter light, this feature promises to deliver high quality sharp pictures and videos.

Samsung Galaxy s5 also features some interesting features like Phase detect, contrast detect AF, Selective Focus and post-capture refocus, which are found mostly on high end cameras and is sure to impress photography enthusiasts.

TouchWiz: A nice new user interface, similar to the ones we have already seen on its tablets. There have been a few tweaks to the Settings menu, but the lock and the home screens have not undergone much change. Though the notification area looks a bit more crowded, some of the most used buttons are now more readily accessible at Samsung Galaxy s5, saving us the trouble of going to the settings menu quite often.

Extra features :  This phone seems to have been designed keeping in mind a whole segment of customers, who are passionate about health & fitness.

Heart Rate Sensor: Just below the flash is the heart rate monitor, first of a kind on any smartphone. This might be a heads up to other Smartphone manufacturers.
